Top 5 Meaningful Things to do During a Christian Wedding Ceremony

Many couples want to give glory and honor to the God that brought them together and they are looking for meaningful ways to keep the focus of their ceremony on Jesus. We have put together this list of 10 meaningful and unique things couples can do to keep Christ in their wedding ceremony.

1. Ceremonial Foot Washing:

This is such a beautiful picture of a couples humility and service towards one another. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples on His last night before His crucifixion.

In the Bible in John 13:14-17 Christ instructs His disciples: If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

Incorporating a ceremonial foot washing in your Christian wedding ceremony is a beautiful way to honor his command for us to do as He has done.

2. Share the Gospel with your guests:

Jesus calls His followers to go out and share the good news of the Gospel. We see this reflected in scripture In the book of Mark.

Mark 16:15 And he said to them, β€˜Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.

Your journey as a couple is so significant and to get to be an example to your friends and family who may not know the love of Christ is really profound. Your wedding ceremony is a great and unique opportunity to share the good news of the Gospel and your testimony as a couple and what Christ has done through you both.

3. Take Communion Together:

Communion is not something to be taken lightly as it is symbolic of consuming the body and blood of the Messiah in order that one should live. It’s an invitation to repent of any sins that would hinder your walk with God.

We have seen this done in the public setting of taking communion in the Catholic church and we have seen a more intimate setting two people repenting in prayer together intimately and taking communion together prior to the ceremony.

4. Praise and Worship at the Altar:

We are called to spend our days praising His Holy Name so what better place to do that than at the wedding altar. We chose to do this at our own wedding ceremony in Austin Texas and it was so meaningful to us as we got to sing praises to our King just before becoming one in covenant with Him. It’s up to each couple how many songs they choose to incorporate into their ceremony, we chose a mashup but we have seen people sing 3 or 4 songs at the altar before proceeding with the ceremony portion.

beautiful bride sings praise and worship at the wedding altar during her wedding ceremony while her groom plays keys and sings with her at their wedding venue in Austin Texas. This is an emphasis on a Christ centered marriage

5. Family Prayer Circle

Your friends and family are oftentimes share the same faith in Jesus and would be honored for an opportunity to bless you by surrounding you and covering you in prayer either before or during the ceremony.

It can be difficult sometimes to find meaningful things to ask your loved ones to participate in., This is a unique way to give your loved ones a critical role to play in the overall wedding day ensuring nobody feels left out in this celebration of two becoming one in the eyes of God.

We have only listed 5 of our favorite meaningful things to do during a Christian wedding ceremony but there are so many great ideas available out there. We would love to know what your favorite ones are especially if it’s something that wasn’t mentioned here.
